The Freaks Come Out At Night

Last night YSL threw a hipster glam masquerade party celebrating their new fragrance Parisienne. Here's a little inspiration if you're thinking of going the eyes-without-a-face route this weekend. Happy Halloween everybody!!! xxx

I Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts...

Does this 2006 editorial for Vogue Italia (shot by Miles Aldrige) remind anybody else of the library ghost at the beginning of Ghostbusters?

Hero Worship

There's something sooo alluring about superheroes: the crazy costumes, the death-defying action, the freedom to wear your underwear on the outside... it's no wonder superhero costumes are always among the most popular come Halloween. We all want to be heroes... just for one day! The fashion world understands our hero dreams, and this was never more apparent than back in May 2008 when the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art held a gala/exhibition called Superheroes: Fashion & Fantasy. Which brings us back to US Vogue, yet again (I'm sorry, did I say French Vogue was kicking your butt?), for this action-packed editorial shot by Craig McDean and starring Coco Rocha.

We're All Mad Here...

I absolutely adore Alice in Wonderland, from Lewis Carroll's original twisted tale to the toned-down Disney version to every warped adaptation I've come across. Since I was little my favorite stories (Alice, Labyrinth, The Wizard of Oz) were always about a young girl escaping to a crazy world where nothing is as it seems. I'd love to dress up as Alice for Halloween but a friend of mine did a fantastic version a few years back involving quasi-decapitation by way of a Queen of Hearts playing card. Hard to top, to say the least. Whether or not being Alice is in the cards (ugh, sorry) for me this year, today's Halloween-y editorial takes us on a journey down the rabbit-hole, shot by Annie Leibovitz, once again from American Vogue (December 2003), and once again starring the enchanting Natalia Vodianova.

Pride

If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise...

It's Halloween week! While I'm still pondering my costume (plastic surgery addict vs. mummy... I'm into bandages this year for some reason), I can't stop thinking about the classics: classic candy, classic horror films and classic fairy tales, in their most twisted incarnations. And if you're stumped for a costume, look no further than your favorite childhood stories, just about any character can make a truly fantastic costume with just a little twist of wickedness. I once dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood complete with claw marks, a (faux) fur pelt and a basket of (faux) weapons. This week I'm going all Halloweeny with the posts. First up: Little Red Riding Hood by way of US Vogue September 2009.

Blogger Lovin': Wang Braids

At almost mid-way down my back, my hair is probably longer now than it's ever been. But I have fine, not-straight, not-curly, almost-wavy-but-not-quite hair that rarely does what it's told. An attempt at a very of-the-moment Alexander Wang SS2010-inspired side braid was no exception: my braid turned out short and wimpy instead of long and loose. Extensions are definitely foreign territory to me and while I wouldn't want real extensions maybe something clip-able could work? I wasn't sure there was there such a thing, but both Caroline and Silje mention using them in their Wang braid endeavors. And Caroline's braid looks so perfect!

Off The Wall

More from Paris Vogue's November issue! Here's a perfect example of why I think Paris Vogue kicks the tiny, model-sized butts of all other (still-lovable) Vogues. Once again styled by the incredible Emmanuelle Alt, Graffi-Couture was shot by Mario Sorrenti featuring Raquel Zimmerman. Love the juxtaposition of the couture with the bold and graphic street art... gorgeous!! Happy weekend!

Smear Campaign

Love love love these photos from Paris Vogue November 2009, the make-up is extraordinary! Make-up by Kim and photographer Tyen, styled by Emmanuelle Alt and featuring Anja Rubik.
